How big are African Penguins?


African Penguins are around 60 cm tall. They weigh between 2.4 and 3.6 kg.

How do they look different?

Can you see the black spots on the chest and belly?

Where do they live?

Can you guess? Yes, you can only find African penguins in the seas around southern Africa.

What do they eat?

They eat small fish like sardines and anchovies. But they don't like pizza!

How many African Penguins are there in the world today?

A hundred years ago there were more than a million. Sadly there are now only around 170,000.

Something funny about the African Penguins?

They have a very unusual cry - it sounds like a donkey. That's why they were once called 'Jackass' penguins!
