Oxford Progressive English Readers

Oxford Storyland Readers

A primary reading series for young learners. Graded according to twelve levels of reading ability and controlled using especially designed computer software. Original stories for young learners.

Each reader in the series includes puzzles every four pages which provide reinforcement of the content. Comprehension-type questions are provided at the end of the book to check the learners' global and specific understanding of the story.

The books at levels 7-12 are more factual . The aim of this is to relate to the learners' own experience and encourage a genuine interest in reading.


Oxford Bookworms

One of the best series of readers. Many of the titles at the lower levels are suitable for young learners including the following:

An independent website providing free resources for English language teachers and students. These include reading and listening materials for use in the classroom or online.

Which resources can I use with my students?
Think of ESL Young Learners as a library. Materials are broadly categorised by age and/or
level - but visitors can use any materials they can manage.
  • Materials for the Age 5+ range in level from Beginners to Pre-intermediate.
  • Materials for the Age 10+ range in level from Pre-intermediate to Upper Intermediate.

Less confident
older learners may want to try the materials for younger children or vice versa.
